Since 2015, UU has worked to support various educational initiatives for girls and young women in Afghanistan, primarily through the Digital Citizen Fund (DCF). DCF organizes the Girls Afghan Robotics Team and provides digital education opportunities for Afghan girls. UU’s efforts for DCF include content creation, media outreach, fundraising, and international relations. UU has worked closely with DCF founder Roya Mahboob to help build support for programming as her organization has evolved into an international advocate for girls’ education.
Uncommon Union played several key roles:
• Partnership and Resource Mobilization: Raised funding and endorsements from governments, businesses, and philanthropists to support the campaign’s growth and impact.
• Public Relations: Managed communications for the Afghan Girls Robotics Team, fostering media relationships and ensuring high-profile global coverage.
• Education and Incubation: Supported the establishment of internet training centers, providing digital skills to girls and incubating startups. • Peace and Security: Facilitated informal participation in the Afghan Peace Negotiations. • Media: Co-produced the Hollywood film ‘Rule Breakers,’ which highlights the story of the Afghan Robotics Team and amplifies their impact on a global scale.
These efforts help establish powerful Afghan advocates for girls’ education in STEM and contributed to significant global advocacy for Afghan girls.
