Advocating for Health System Strengthening and Gender Equity.
Uncommon Union (UU) has been a key advocate for health system strengthening and gender equity in global health security since the 2014 Ebola outbreak, with efforts expanding during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the outbreak in the U.S., UU contributed to publishing an op-ed warning of pandemic risks, which led to a summit on global health security during a major international assembly in 2020. The summit resulted in over 40 global institutions and governments committing to advancing health equity and empowering women leaders. UU also helped secure a significant multi-year grant to support gender-focused health initiatives, continuing to drive efforts in strengthening health systems.
Uncommon Union played several key roles:
• Strategic Planning: Identified gender-based health funding opportunities, focusing on communities affected by health inequities.
• Partnership and Resource Mobilization: Secured funding, endorsements, and commitments from governments, business leaders, and philanthropists for health advocacy.
• Public Relations: Managed communications and media relations for partners to raise awareness and support for health equity initiatives.
