Adam L. Penenberg is a journalism professor at New York University and editor of PandoDaily. He has written for a wide array of publications. As a senior editor at Forbes and reporter for Forbes.com, Penenberg garnered national attention in 1998 for unmasking serial fabricator Stephen Glass of The New Republic.
With the publishing of his book, Viral Loop, we deployed complex Facebook and iPhone applications of the same name. Through data visualization, market simulations, and sophisticated algorithms the deployments illustrated how value is created in a participation-based economy. Viral Loop demonstrated that users, by virtue of their engagement, are essentially valuable and not mere consumers of “free” services. The application received coverage in Publishers Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Observer, The Atlantic Monthly and Tech Crunch, as well as attracting a large install base.
