Bringing about real change to girls and women’s lives in Mexico will take a shared language that can overcome different regions, sensibilities and cultures. Futbol is the glue that can equally reach the conservative heartland of Queretaro, the southern towns of Oaxaca, the industrial north or the progressive enclaves of Mexico City. – Eglantina Zingg
Uncommon Union is excited to be working with model, actress, and social entrepreneur Eglantina Zingg. Ms. Zingg is actively involved in sports programs throughout Latin America. She uses her platform as a celebrity to promote education and positive values, such as gender equality, through athletics. Her work is supported by her ethical fashion brand, ProyectoPaz. She is also in the process of forming a non-profit, Goledoras, which builds on her current work reaching about 5000 children across Latin-America. Uncommon Union is helping Ms. Zingg build strategic partnerships to support her non-profit and its goals.
Goledoras will recruit tens of thousands of girls, ages 10 to 15, in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Peubla, Toluca, and Tijuana to join teams established in their own neighborhoods. The program aims to empower girls through teamwork, physical conditioning, perseverance, and goal setting to overcome the violence of gender disparity. The coming-together of life skills, sports, and social equity leverages the symbolic power of an immensely popular sport in Latin America to enhance the perceptions and prowess of girls.
